Hi! I'm Mir Hasib,
a Ph.D. student in Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama (UA).
I am studying how people understand, trust, and act on health information during moments of acute vulnerability, most centrally, the hospital-to-home care transition, where fragmented communication and cognitive overload routinely produce an “illusion of comprehension” that puts patients at risk of preventable harm.
My work combines systematic literature synthesis, qualitative interviews, and quantitative/psychometric modeling to characterize where discharge communication fails, and to translate those findings into evidence-based design specifications for AI-assisted interventions, such as spatial and conversational interfaces, evaluating their feasibility and acceptability with patients and clinicians. This core program is grounded in a broader interest in how people build epistemic trust in AI-mediated communication and in the ethical, accessible design of the sociotechnical systems that increasingly mediate high-stakes human decisions, from clinical care to public AI governance.
Prior to joining UA, I earned an M.A. in Mass Communication from Texas Tech University, as well as an M.S.S. and B.S.S. in Mass Communication and Journalism from Khulna University, Bangladesh.
